Pick-up by your Neste Uganda Safaris Ltd guide at 7:00 AM from your hotel or Kigali International
Airport. Begin the scenic drive (2.5–3 hours) to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze District,
northwestern Rwanda. En route, make brief birding stops in wetlands, forest patches, and at
Nyabarongo River, looking for species like: White-collared Olive back, African Open bill, Papyrus
Gonolek, Grey Crowned Crane and more.

In the Afternoon: Arrive in Musanze around midday and check into your lodge near Volcanoes National
Park. After lunch, take a relaxed birding walk around the lodge grounds or nearby Buhanga Eco-Park,
which hosts species such as: Ruwenzori Double-collared Sunbird, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, African
Paradise Flycatcher. In the Evening: there will be a Pre-trekking briefing by your guide on the golden
monkey experience. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Early breakfast and transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters by 6:30 AM. You will Register and meet your
park ranger for a briefing on Golden Monkey trekking. Begin your trek into the bamboo forests of the
Virunga massif by 8:00 AM and Spend about 1–2 hours observing endangered Golden Monkeys in their
natural habitat – known for their playful behavior and vibrant golden-orange coats.
Afterwords, return from the forest and transfer back to the lodge for Rest and lunch at the lodge.
Afternoon Birding Excursion: Head to the Volcanoes National Park buffer zone and nearby wetlands and
cultivated edges, guided by a specialist birding guide. Expect sightings of: Dusky Turtle Dove, Red-faced
Woodland Warbler (Albertine endemic), Rwenzori Batis, Archer's Robin-Chat and White-tailed Blue
Flycatcher. After Birding, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Today After an early breakfast meal, you will have an Early Morning: check out and drive northwards
(~45 mins) to Rugezi Swamp, one of Rwanda’s Important Birding Areas (IBA). Morning birding session at
Rugezi Wetlands, known for: Grauer’s Swamp Warbler, Grey-crowned Cranes, Carruthers’s Cisticola,
African Marsh Harrier, Malachite Kingfisher. Enjoy birding on the wooden boardwalks and open swamp

edges with binoculars and a bird list. Afterword, Depart Rugezi and begin drive back to Kigali (3.5–4
hours) with an Optional stop for lunch in Musanze or roadside towns.
