7 Days Volcanoes, Nyungwe and Akagera combined National Park Safari
7 DaysOverview
Explore Rwanda’s top national parks on this 7-day adventure. Begin in Akagera National Park,
home to the Big Five and scenic savannahs. Head to Volcanoes National Park for unforgettable
gorilla trekking and a golden monkey experience. End in Nyungwe Forest, where you’ll track
chimpanzees and walk the iconic canopy bridge. This trip combines wildlife, culture, and
stunning landscapes—all starting and ending in Kigali.
Your safari adventure begins upon arrival in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. After a warm welcome
from Our Safari Guide, you will set off on a scenic drive eastward to Akagera National Park (a
haven of savannah, woodland, and wetland ecosystems). Depending on your arrival time, you
may enjoy a short game drive en route to your lodge. In the afternoon, embark on a relaxing boat
cruise on Lake Ihema, where you’ll spot hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds. Enjoy
dinner and an overnight stay inside the park.
Wake up early for a sunrise game drive across the vast plains of Akagera. This is the best time to
see a wide range of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, and
possibly lions or leopards. After a picnic lunch in the park, and proceed with the sunset game
drive. End the day at the lodge with dinner and sweet slumber.
After breakfast, depart Akagera Np early morning and travel north through the scenic Rwandan
countryside towards Volcanoes National Park, located in the Musanze district. Along the way,
enjoy views of rolling hills, local farms, and traditional villages. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at
your lodge and unwind. Later in the day, take an optional visit to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village
(Gorilla Guardians Village) to learn about traditional Rwandan culture and the local way of life.
Dinner and overnight in the Volcanoes area.
Today is the highlight of your safari—Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After an
early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing, then get into the forest with
experienced guides and trackers. Trekking can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on
the location of the gorilla family. Once located, you’ll spend a magical one hour observing the
endangered Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to your lodge to rest
and reflect on this unforgettable experience. After words, have a Lunch break, and an evening
tour of Musanze Cave to see bat colonies and the genocide history. There will be an Overnight
after dinner in your lodge.
In the morning, set out for a Golden Monkey trek, a shorter and livelier forest experience where
you’ll observe these playful and colorful primates in the bamboo zones of the park. After the
trek, return to the lodge for an early lunch before beginning your scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest
National Park in the southwest. The journey takes you through dramatic landscapes, tea
plantations, and local villages. Arrive in Nyungwe in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Start your day with an early morning Chimpanzee tracking adventure in Nyungwe Forest. With
the help of expert trackers, you’ll search for our close cousins in their dense rainforest habitat.
After returning to the lodge for lunch, enjoy an afternoon canopy walk, suspended 60 meters
above the forest floor-offering panoramic views and the chance to spot monkeys and birds from
the treetops. Optional forest walks or birding experiences can be arranged depending on time and
energy levels. Dinner and overnight in Nyungwe.
After a relaxed breakfast, begin your journey back to Kigali, with optional stops along the way
for scenic photos, local crafts, or historical sites. If time permits, you may also visit the Kigali
Genocide Memorial for a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s history and resilience. Upon arrival
in Kigali, you’ll be dropped off at the airport or your hotel, marking the end of an unforgettable
7-day Rwandan safari through its national parks and rich cultural landscapes.
