7 DaysOverview
Experience the charm of Zanzibar Island in this carefully curated 7-day safari, hosted by Neste
Uganda Safaris Ltd. This journey offers a seamless blend of cultural heritage, nature, spice, and
white-sand beaches. From the winding streets of historic Stone Town to the spice-scented
plantations and tranquil turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, this safari is the ultimate island
escape. Perfect for couples, families, or small groups, this tour combines immersive
excursions—like Prison Island, Jozani Forest, and Spice Farms—with time to relax at stunning
beachfront resorts in Nungwi, Kendwa, or Paje. Enjoy guided tours, personalized service, and
curated experiences designed to immerse you in the heart of Zanzibar. Whether you’re snorkeling
coral reefs, learning Swahili cooking, or watching a dhow sail across the sunset, this safari will
leave you with stories to tell and serenity to carry home.
You’ll begin your journey with a morning flight from Entebbe (Uganda) to Abeid Amani
Karume International Airport in Zanzibar. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by a Neste Uganda
Safaris guide who will assist with your transfer to your charming hotel in Stone Town. After
check-in and refreshments, enjoy a guided walking tour through the historic heart of Zanzibar.
You'll explore the Sultan’s Palace, House of Wonders, Old Fort, and the Freddie Mercury House,
with plenty of time to browse local markets and galleries.
After lunch at a traditional rooftop restaurant, continue through the winding alleys filled with
intricate doors, Swahili architecture, and old mosques. The rest of your afternoon is free to relax
at Forodhani Gardens or enjoy a refreshing drink by the waterfront. In the evening, an optional
sunset dhow cruise is available to see the coastline glow as the sun dips into the ocean. Return to
your hotel for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, set out for a half-day guided visit to one of Zanzibar’s famous Spice Farms,
located just outside of town. Learn about the island’s aromatic history as the "Spice Island" while
touching, smelling, and tasting spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, and exotic
fruits. You'll also learn how locals use these plants for medicine and cooking, making it an
educational and sensory-rich experience.
Later, travel to the shores of Stone Town for a boat ride to Prison Island (Changuu Island), home
to ancient giant Aldabra tortoises and ruins of a colonial quarantine station. After walking the
island and meeting the tortoises, enjoy swimming and snorkeling in the coral-filled waters.
Return to Stone Town by mid-afternoon and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure or shopping.
Optional dinner at a seafood restaurant or hotel.
After breakfast, drive south to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, Zanzibar’s only national park
and a sanctuary for the rare Red Colobus Monkeys, endemic to the island. Your guide will lead
you through nature trails shaded by mahogany trees and mangroves, pointing out monkeys,
butterflies, and medicinal plants. You’ll also explore the mangrove boardwalk and learn how this
ecosystem helps protect Zanzibar’s coastlines. In the afternoon, continue to a nearby Swahili
village where you’ll experience traditional rural life. Enjoy a cooking demonstration, visit a local
home, and learn about mat weaving, coconut harvesting, and community life. You’ll return to
your hotel in Stone Town in the late afternoon. The evening is free for relaxation or optional
night activities like a local food tasting tour.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and begin your scenic drive to Nungwi, located on the
northern tip of the island. Along the way, you’ll stop at Mangapwani Slave Caves, a historical
site used in the slave trade era. Walk through the coral caves and listen to the emotional stories
shared by your guide. Continue north with photo stops along the palm-lined roads. Arrive in
Nungwi in the early afternoon and check into your beachfront resort. The rest of the day is free
to relax by the ocean or swim in the crystal-clear waters. Nungwi is known for its vibrant local
scene, so feel free to explore the beach bars, artisan shops, or take a sunset walk. Dinner and
overnight at your beach resort.
Enjoy breakfast by the ocean before heading out for a full day of optional water-based activities.
You may choose to go snorkeling at Mnemba Atoll, one of Zanzibar’s most famous coral reefs
teeming with tropical fish, or try scuba diving, stand-up paddleboarding, or kayaking. Your
guide can also arrange a traditional dhow boat tour with snorkeling stops and a seafood BBQ on
a sandbank.
Return to the resort in the afternoon for rest, followed by a sunset dhow cruise with drinks and
light snacks. Sail along the coast as traditional music plays and the sun sets over the Indian
Ocean—a perfect end to a magical day. Dinner is served at your resort or a seaside restaurant of
your choice.
Today is yours to enjoy at a slower pace. After breakfast, relax on the white sand beach, take a
spa treatment, or participate in optional cultural activities like a Swahili cooking class, henna
painting, or traditional drumming workshop offered at the resort or nearby cultural centers. For
those more adventurous, kite surfing or deep-sea fishing can be arranged.
In the afternoon, take a guided walking tour of Nungwi village, where you’ll visit the local fish
market, boat-building yards, and women’s handicraft groups. Learn how Zanzibar’s coastal
communities live and thrive. The evening is reserved for a farewell beachside dinner with
candlelight and soft music to celebrate your final night in paradise.
After breakfast and one last stroll along the shore, check out from your resort. If time permits,
you may stop by a local craft market for souvenirs or revisit a favorite spot in Stone Town on
your way back to the airport. Your private transfer will take you to Zanzibar International
Airport, where you’ll catch your return flight to Entebbe (Uganda) or Nairobi (Kenya).
Neste Uganda Safaris Ltd will ensure a smooth and timely transfer, and assist with any final
check-in procedures. As your journey ends, you’ll take home lasting memories of the ocean
breeze, spice-scented air, and rich culture of Zanzibar Island.
