Your adventure begins with an early morning domestic flight from Arusha (or Entebbe/Nairobi
via connection) to Kigoma, a lakeside town on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. Upon
arrival, a Neste Uganda Safaris representative will assist with your boat transfer—a scenic 2–3-
hour journey across the turquoise waters of Africa's second-deepest lake to reach Mahale
Mountains National Park. As you approach the park, the landscape transforms into dramatic
green mountains rising straight from the lake’s edge. Arrive at your eco-lodge or luxury tented
camp in time for a fresh lunch and orientation from your hosts. In the afternoon, take a short
forest walk along the lake’s edge or enjoy swimming, kayaking, or simply relaxing with a
sundowner. Dinner is served under the stars with the sounds of the forest surrounding you.

After a hearty breakfast, you'll meet your park ranger and guide for the day’s highlight:
chimpanzee trekking. Mahale is home to one of the largest protected populations of wild
chimpanzees, and tracking them involves hiking through steep, lush terrain. Trek lengths vary
depending on where the chimpanzees nested the night before, ranging from 1 to 4 hours. Along
the way, your guide will point out birds, butterflies, monkeys, and rare forest flora.
Once the chimpanzees are found, you'll spend up to one hour in their presence, watching them
groom, feed, and play in the wild—an extraordinary and emotional wildlife encounter. After the
trek, return to camp for a hot lunch and well-earned rest. In the afternoon, optional activities
include a guided nature walk, a fishing trip with local fishermen, or snorkeling in the lake’s clear
waters. Enjoy a bonfire on the beach in the evening, followed by dinner.

Wake up to the calls of hornbills and the soothing lap of water on the shore. After breakfast,
enjoy a relaxing early morning kayak or canoe ride along the shoreline, offering chances to spot
otters, birds, and perhaps a final glimpse of monkeys or forest animals. Alternatively, join a short

cultural visit to a nearby Tongwe fishing village, where you’ll learn about the traditions of the
local people who coexist peacefully with the park.

Late morning, check out and begin your boat transfer back to Kigoma, enjoying lunch en route or
upon arrival. Your flight from Kigoma departs in the afternoon, returning you to Arusha,
