Upon arrival at Manda Airport, you’ll be met by your guide from Neste Uganda Safaris Ltd and
transferred by dhow boat to your hotel in Lamu Old Town or Shela Village. After settling in,
begin your exploration with a walking tour through the narrow, historic streets of Lamu, visiting
landmarks like Lamu Fort, Riyadha Mosque, and traditional Swahili homes. Along the way, stop
at artisan shops and local craft boutiques to browse hand-carved wooden furniture, woven
baskets, leather sandals, and intricate jewelry.
In the evening, enjoy a Swahili dinner at a rooftop restaurant like Peponi Hotel or Moonrise
Restaurant, featuring coconut-based curries, grilled seafood, and sweet dates. As the town slows
down, you can stroll along the waterfront under lantern-lit skies or relax at your hotel with the
distant sounds of dhows and ocean breeze in the background.

After a relaxed breakfast, set out on a traditional dhow sailing excursion, cruising along the
Lamu archipelago’s peaceful waters. Stop at Manda or Kipungani Beach for swimming and
snorkeling, or visit Takwa Ruins, the remains of a 15th-century Swahili settlement. A fresh
seafood lunch is prepared aboard the dhow or on the beach, often featuring crab, prawns, rice
pilau, and grilled fish caught the same day.
Return to the island in the afternoon for a bit of rest, then head into Shela for some shopping at
boutique coastal fashion stores, or explore the Lamu Market for spices, fabrics, and handmade

beach BBQ experience arranged through your lodge. Unwind under the stars with a fresh

walking barefoot along Shela Beach, or enjoying a Swahili breakfast of mahamri, mandazi, and
spiced tea. Depending on your departure time, your guide can arrange a short visit to Matondoni
Village, known for dhow-building and handicrafts, or take you back to Old Town for any last-
minute shopping. Wrap up your Lamu escape with a scenic boat transfer back to Manda Airport,
