Your safari begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or airport in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. After a
short briefing from your guide, set off on a scenic 2.5-hour drive north to Volcanoes National Park,
located in the Musanze district. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Rwanda’s lush countryside,
terraced hills, and rural life. On arrival in Musanze, check in at your lodge and enjoy lunch. In the
afternoon, you will visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village (also known as Gorilla Guardians Village), where
former poachers now share their rich cultural heritage. Engage in traditional dances, drumming sessions,
and storytelling that offers insight into Rwanda’s pre- and post-gorilla conservation journey. You’ll also
learn about traditional medicine, hunting techniques, and Rwandan customs. After this immersive
experience, return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation, preparing for the next day’s gorilla trekking
adventure.

Wake up early and have breakfast at your lodge before heading to the Volcanoes National Park
headquarters by 7:00 AM for a pre-trek briefing by park rangers. You’ll be assigned a gorilla family group
based on your fitness level and interests, then driven to the trailhead to begin your trek. The gorilla
trekking experience can last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla group.
Once you find them, you'll spend one unforgettable hour observing their behavior-watching them feed,
interact, groom, and play. This up-close encounter with the endangered Mountain Gorillas in their
natural habitat is one of Africa’s most moving wildlife experiences.
After the trek, return to your lodge to freshen up and enjoy an early lunch. Later in the afternoon, begin
the drive back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening. You’ll be dropped off at your
hotel or airport, marking the end of your memorable 2-day Volcanoes National Park safari.
