Your safari begins with a morning flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar to Mafia Island. Upon
arrival at Mafia Airport, you’ll be met by your Neste Uganda Safaris representative and
transferred to your eco-lodge or beachfront resort. On the short drive, enjoy glimpses of rural
village life, coconut plantations, and lush coastal forest.
After lunch and settling in, spend your afternoon unwinding by the beach. Take a guided sunset
beach walk along the white sands, where you’ll learn about local flora and birdlife, and witness
traditional fishing dhows returning with their daily catch. Enjoy a seafood dinner at your lodge
under the stars, with the soothing sounds of waves preparing you for your island adventure
ahead.

Wake up early for a full day exploring the wonders of Mafia Island Marine Park. Depending on
the season (typically October to March), your morning may begin with a whale shark
excursion—an awe-inspiring chance to swim alongside the world’s largest fish in calm, clear
waters. Guided by marine experts, this is an ethical and safe experience you'll never forget. After
a picnic breakfast or lunch, continue with a snorkeling safari to vibrant coral gardens like Chole
Bay, home to over 400 species of fish, sea turtles, and colorful soft corals. Non-divers will still
find it one of the best underwater experiences in East Africa. Alternatively, certified divers can
opt for one or two dives in Mafia’s rich reefs, walls, or channels. Return to your lodge in the
afternoon for rest, and enjoy a tranquil evening with fresh-caught dinner and optional bonfire.

After breakfast, enjoy a cultural experience with a guided visit to Chole Island, just a short boat
ride away. Here, you'll explore ruins of 19th-century Arab buildings, see traditional dhow
building yards, and interact with the welcoming local community. You can also visit a sea turtle
conservation site or take a walk through a local farm to see how islanders grow food in harmony

with the sea. Return to the main island for a light lunch and check-out. Depending on your flight
time, you may have the chance for a final swim or coconut drink on the beach. Transfer to Mafia
Airport for your flight back to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, where Neste Uganda Safaris Ltd will
